2009 ASCC High Performance Driving Schools!

Race 2009 ASCC HIGH PERFORMANCE DRIVING SCHOOLS

The 2009 Atlantic Sports Car Club Drivers Education program is now underway! ASCC will be providing a number of levels of education in the driving arts throughout the year sure to meet the needs of anyone interested in learning how to get the most out of their vehicle both on and off the track! For 2009 ASCC will be offering the following programs:

Lapping Schools - Coming soon!

Throughout the year ASCC and other ARMS member orgranizations put on 'Lapping Sessions' at Atlantic Motorsport Park. These sessions allow anyone to lap the track in a safe, controlled environment cheaplly and without the stress of competition! In order to participate in these sessions drivers are required to have completed an approved drivers education program. To make this process easier ASCC will be providing several 'Lapping Schools' throughout the year. These sessions will teach you the basics of track safety and driver control to provide you with the tools required to drive at AMP during these sessions!

Details on these schools are still being worked out so stay tuned for dates, costs and other information,

High Performance Driving School - May 17-18th, 2009

The first ASCC High Performance Driving School of 2009 will be held during the long weekend of May 17th and 18th, 2009. This session is open to anyone who wants to learn some of the more advanced techniques and track safety to qualify for a lapping card or SoloSprint license for the 2009 season. Remember that you REQUIRE one of these licenses to drive at AMP outside of school or Slalom events! ASCC is hosting the 2009 ASN Canada FIA SoloSprint National Championship in September so this is the perfect time to get your SoloSprint license and a few events of practice before squaring off against other drivers at the National level!

For those not interested in obtaining their ARMS Race license a High Performance Driving School will take place starting with a evening classrom session on May 17th followed by an all day track session at Atlantic Motorsport Park on May 18th. Entry fee is $180.00 which includes the lapping card and/or solosprint license for students who succesfully complete the school. This course consists of a classroom session instructing students on the theory and physics of high performance driving as well as track safety and the following day consists entirely of on-track activities with small groups of students paired to experienced instructors.

Students are required to bring the following:

- A safe street vehicle. If your vehicle can pass MVI its probably fine for the on-track sessions. Vehicles will be inspected for suitability (Brakes, Tires, etc) prior to the session. Convertible vehicles are NOT permitted without adaquate rollover protection. Please contact the organizers with questions regarding vehicle suitability. Students will be asked to complete a self-inspection checklist provided prior to the course.

- A Snell 2000M or newer 'M' rated helmet is acceptable, provided the car is not equipped with a roll cage or racing slicks. Cars with cages and/or slicks will require a Snell 'SA' rated helmet. Helmets meeting the following FIA standards are also approved.

FIA 8860-2004
Snell 2000 SA or 2005 SA
SFI Foundation 31.1A or 31.2A
British Standards Institution BS 6658-85 type A/FR

If you do not have access to a helmet please contact the organizers as loaner helmets may be arranged with advance notice.

Completion of this High Performance Driving School qualifies participants for an ARMS Lapping and SoloSprint licnese allowing you access to the many lapping and solo competition sessions at Atlantic Motorsport Park throughout the year. The cost of this license is included in your school entry.

Note: Preferential placement will be given to students interested in obtaining their SoloSprint qualifications for the purposes of running the 2009 ASCC SoloSprint series and 2009 ASN Canada FIA SoloSprint National Championships held at AMP in September! Students interested only in obtaining the qualifications to attend lapping sessions may be asked to complete a Lapping School, held at a later date, instead.

ASCC Race School - May 22-24th, 2009

The regular Race School, which is set for May 22-24th, 2009 is available only to those who intend to race in the TRAC Tour sedan series this year. This advanced driving course will provide you with advanced techniques towards driving competitively at AMP in the heat of traffic safety and, hopefully, quickly! The cost is $200.00 and will consist of a mandatory classroom session Friday evening at Kartbahn Indoor Go-Karting and all day at the track on Saturday. A school race will take place Sunday during the regular ARMS race schedule. This race is included in the cost of the school. Full safety equipment and a completed medical is required for this course. The instructors will teach you theory and safety and personal on-track instruction in your car on a one to one basis.

Race school participants have the same requirements for the Saturday session as the High Performance Driving School. A safe street vehicle can be used for the Saturday track sessions however a full race-prepared vehicle and TRAC series mandated safety equipment are required for the Sunday school race. For series rules and safety requirements click here.

Participants which are planning to obtain their race license should be prepared to provide a completed ARMS Medical form to the Friday Evening classroom session. (For details and copies of the forms click here.)
